NICOLÁS QUEVEDO

Nicolas Quevedo's work (Bogotá, 1997) explores the relationship between the body and the mind, the versatility of movement, and the ability to transmute by altering visual perception. Through the detachment from identity, he seeks to embody his unattainable imaginings, the impossible dream of being or not being limited by the boundaries imposed by our bodies.

Using mediums such as video, photography, sculpture, painting, and performance, he shares manifestos of personal fictions.

HAUS OF SUN

Haus of Sun is their narrative artistic project portraying an unreal utopian future within a real dystopian context.

It is a work that encompasses a broad and multidisciplinary vision, reconnecting us with art, spirituality, the cosmic, and the mystical, structuring the soul and interweaving our senses, fears, and interests.

As a result, it incorporates visual materials (photography), audiovisual elements (video), plastic components (costumes, masks, jewelry), performative aspects, and installation pieces.

From the fields of art and architecture, disciplines I focused on studying professionally at the Universidad de Los Andes, I discovered a juxtaposition where I could interpret the body and inhabiting it as a fundamental element of space: a personal territory.

I found how the way we move represents our feelings and how various factors, such as approval, disapproval, and context, alter and either benefit or harm our personality. We act based on how we perceive ourselves.

Starting ballet in 2018, I began to understand how the body is an immense vehicle for expression and, like any medium, must be worked on, expanded, and reinterpreted.

I directed my art towards the pleasure of escaping my assigned individuality, taking refuge in unrealizable imaginaries that allowed me to experience new sensations and dreams through their performativity.

Influenced by artists such as Matthew Barney, Orlan, Nicolas Jaar, writers like Oscar Wilde, Joris Karl Huysmans, Honoré de Balzac, and performers like Marina Abramovic and Juliana Huxtable, I articulated my interests, aiming never to limit my horizons to a single culture, country, or ideology.
